Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year. It’s a time for peace in earth and goodwill to all men. It makes us believe that better days are ahead. The hope that we feel at Christmas time comes from the birth of a Savior.

While there are many debates on the actual day in which Jesus Christ was born, the fact remains that He was born, He lived on Earth, died in the cross and on the third day He rose again.

Many also argue that Christmas is a pagan holiday and should not be celebrated. Additionally, they claim that there is no mention of Christmas in the Bible. This statement is quite true. However, the story of Jesus’ birth is found in Luke Chapter 2. It involves significant persons including Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the Angel Gabriel, Wise men, Shepherds and Herald Angels to name a few. It also involves key things such as the Manger, the Star and the three Gifts the Wise men brought.

While we may not know the exact birth date of the Lord Jesus, we can celebrate His birth the right way. We commemorate the truth that He did come on that Glorious Night that changed the world forever. God in His great love for mankind came to earth to redeem us. Christmas should be celebrated in a reverential way. We should celebrate Christmas with a holy heart. After all God looks at our hearts. Finally, know this; without Christmas there would be no Christ.

THOUGHTS ABOUT CHRISTMAS

One thing remains and it’s this; Christmas is much more than a holiday. It’s the season of the year where the world seems to be a better place. The hope that our world can change for the better. It is where wars cease and mankind can in harmony one with the other.

At Christmas, love and cheer fills the air. Seeing the innocence of children as they wait with anticipation for Christmas Day. There is no better way to enjoy Christmas than thought the eyes of a child.

Moreover, the question remains, is there meaning to the Christmas? Can we find meaning beyond what we see?
I challenge you as you read this article to ponder on the ideas below. Perhaps there is meaning after all if we would only look for it.
As a result, the next time you see a Christmas tree, bright lights, decorations or hear a carol, consider the following thoughts.

LIGHTS

There is no denying that Christmas lights are beautiful to behold. Some how it resonates with us. Seeing the eyes of children sparkle as they gaze in amazement at homes, theme parks and stores. Shapes and characters adorned with lights. The warm radiant lights at Christmas can remind us that Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12).
He is our guiding light when our world is dark and grey. He is able to lead us when life is confusing and uncertain. No matter how dismal things may seem His light is powerful enough to pierce any haze.

ANGELS

The birth of Jesus was filled with angels. The messenger angel Gabriel brought news to the Virgin Mary that she would bear the Son of God. Further to, the Angels ushered in the birth of the Lord Jesus. They appeared to shepherds in the field. They worshipped and sang glory to God in the highest and peace on Earth, goodwill to all men (Luke 2:14).

THE STAR

Most Christmas trees are adorned with a star at the top. In the Christmas Story, the wise men from the east followed the star that would ultimately lead them to the manager where Christ was born. Mathew 2:9-10 (KJV) tells us , “When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.” The Star of David is our guiding light through our darkest night. He leads us to a place of hope, refuge and comfort.

MANGER

The manger is the lowliest of places to be born. Jesus the King of kings was born in a stable. Most people are born in the comfort of a hospital surround by expert physicians. The environment is warm and comforting. Can you imagine being born in a stable? With cold air, noisy animals and the smell. God chose to be born in this way.

The manger reminds us that God is accessible to all mankind. Luke 2:7 (KJV) tells us “And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” It doesn’t matter our background, whether rich or poor. God’s love reaches out to us. His arms is an open door.

GIFTS

When Jesus was born Wise men from the East came to worship Him. They brought unto Him gifts. In Matthew 2:11 we read, “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”

God in his infinite love for the world gave His only Jesus as a gift to us. All we have to do is receive the gift of Jesus. When you give and receive gifts this Christmas, just remember we give gifts because God gave us the greatest gift of all. A we give gifts we show love to one another.

CHRISTMAS TREE

The Christmas tree reminds us that Jesus was born to ultimately die on a tree. He was crucified in the cross so that we can have the gift of eternal life. Acts 5:30 (KJV) says, “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.”He paid the price for use so that we can have everlasting life with Him.

Under the tree there’s usually presents for you and for me. Similarly, at the foot of the cross we find the ultimate gift. The gift of eternal life is extended to all freely. All we have to do is reach out and accept it.

THE COLOR RED

The color red is the most popular color at Christmas time. Red is unanimously associated with love. Red roses and red hearts are symbolic with love and affection. The color red reminds me of us that God loves us. He loves us unconditionally. We can never be separated from the love of God that is found in Christ Jesus.

Red is also the color of blood. It reminds us that Jesus shed his blood in the cross because of His great love for us. He loves us so much that He calls us His friends. He says in John 15:13, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

THE COLOR GREEN

Along side the color red you will definitely find the color green. Particularly Christmas trees, garland and wreaths are green. As you celebrate this year, remember that green represents life and hope. Through Jesus we can have life more abundantly (John 10:10). Not only do we have life here on earth but also we have eternal life in Him.

SNOW

While there are many places in the world where it doesn’t snow at Christmas, there are many persons who wishes that it does. Most famous Christmas movies such as Home Alone, Elf and even The Grinch is engulfed with snow. There is something about seeing movies with snow at Christmas time that brings a special feeling.
Snow is white and pure. I am reminded of the verse from that old song by Elvina Hall,

”Jesus paid it’s all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.”

As you see snow whether on the television, electronic devices or in real, remember that truly, only Jesus can wash away all our sins and make us pure and white as snow .

FINAL THOUGHTS

There is no greater feeling than knowing that there is a God who loves you unconditionally. No gift we can get this Christmas or ever expect to receive will compare to the gift of Jesus. As we celebrate His birth into the world, now that He is no longer a babe in a manger but He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He offers us hope that greater things are ahead of us.
